artist's statement
My work stems form an on-going interest in semiotics and how space and meanings are constructed. I am particularly drawn to ordinary every day spaces and events and the idea that they can contain hidden narratives. Through my drawings and paintings I try to explore the different ways we interact with the physical world and how we impose our inner world on the spaces we encounter.
Much of my work takes inspiration from abandoned sites or unfinished architectural structures. However, the scenes I paint can also be based on more intimate spaces (a studio/a home/a garden) or the kind of places we only pass through on route to somewhere else. I often move from an initial interest in the architecture of physical spaces to a consideration of the objects in those spaces, and the mechanics and interactions that bind them all together.
